Parks and Recreation in Englewood, Florida.

Englewood, Florida, has a number of parks that are within the city boundaries and a couple that are a short drive or boat ride away.

Footprints on beachStump Pass State Park. This park was mentioned on the home page and is located on the barrier island of Manasota Key. You can combine a nature walk with a day at the beach, bring your kayak to launch into the bay or arrive by boat. Stump Pass Beach is for those who enjoy being away from the crowds, for swimming, sunbathing or picking up seashells and shark teeth that have washed up on the beach.
A hiking trail passes through natural homes for many species of wildlife. Visitors might see a West Indian manatee, dolphin, gopher tortoises, egrets, herons and frigate birds.
Ranger-led walks are available in the summer.

Walking in the parkLemon Bay Park. The park consists of over 200 acres of pine trees and native Florida scrub and is the home of American bald eagles and a variety of local birds. This is a wonderful way to take time out from a busy schedule and walk the 2 mile trail and rest, if necessary,at one of the many benches along the path. Bobcat Trail leads down to the waters edge of Lemon Bay and gopher tortoises are a common sight along Gopher Trail. Picnic areas and a kayak launching ramp are also located in Lemon Bay Park. Access to the park can be accomplished by way of Stewart Street. Just follow the signs.

Indian Mound Park. Located on Lemon Bay, south of Dearborn Street, the park offers a public boat ramp with parking facilties for boat trailers. Other amenities include a picnic pavilion, restrooms, and a historic nature trail.

Cedar Point Park signCedar Point Environmental Park. On the shores of Lemon Bay the park has 115 acres with 5 marked trails. American bald eagles and gopher tortoises, along with many endangered plants are found here. The reception center is the place to find eco-films, hands-on eco-displays, educational lectures and a knowledgeable staff. Guided tours are provided.

Ann Dever Park signAnn Dever Memorial Regional Park. Formerly known as the Oyster Creek Regional Park, this recreational park is the newest of the parks in Englewood, Florida,and is a family's dream come true. The facilities include football field, tennis courts, a cricket field, basketball courts, dog exercise areas, a skateboard park, Olympic size swimming pool, and a nature preserve. Oyster Creek has 50 acres for active use, 120 acres of environmental land and 136 acres north of the creek. Oyster Creek Regional Park is a sanctuary of old growth pines, scrub habitat and mature pine flatwoods with mangrove fringe along Oyster Creek. An observation platform and the boardwalk crossing Oyster Creek displays the variety of birds that utilize Oyster Creek and the surrounding mangroves. Oyster Creek Regional park is located on San Casa, next to the Humane Society.

Tringali Sports Center. Located adjacent to the Charlotte County Library, Tringali offers a gymnasium with 6 basketball courts, a weight room, 4 outdoor lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, playground and a covered picnic area. Tringali also has a community center with 2800 square feet of meeting space, stage, dressing rooms and a full kitchen. It is ideal for wedding receptions, banquets, dances, or meetings.

Englewood Sports Complex. The complex includes 2 playgrounds, outdoor grills, picnic facilities , 8 lighted tennis courts, 10 softball fields and 4 soccer fields. The recreation building houses a gymnasium, fitness room, restrooms, lockers and showers. The Englewood Sports Complex is located at 1300 S. River Road.

Surf fishingFishing & Boating.

Fishing in Lemon Bay can result in catches of redfish, sheepshead, mangove snapper, inland lakes produce bass, while you will find King Mackerel, Grouper, Shark, Cobia and Blackfin Tuna at offshore reefs. Just south of Englewood is Boca Grande, known as the "World's Capitol for Tarpon Fishing" and there are plenty of well qualified Captain's to provide charter fishing to Boca Grande or offshore. Fishing can also be done off the beaches or fishing piers at the Tom Adams bridge, the Boca Grande fishing pier or the El Jobean fishing pier on State Road 776, especially night fishing for Snook.
